Q. Can the Prevent-A-Freeze System Be installed in any RV?
A. The Prevent-A-Freeze System can be installed in any camper, travel trailer or motor home (new or old) that is self-contained and has a water pump.

Q. How much space does it take?
A. The Prevent-A-Freeze System comes with its own antifreeze tank. The tank holds 2 gallons of NON-TOXIC antifreeze.

Q. How much non-toxic antifreeze does it take to winterize?
A. To winterize all water pressure lines plus traps and RV water pump, it takes approximately _ gallon of non-toxic antifreeze to winterize a 30 RV. Your RV will take less if smaller or if longer than 30, a mall amount more.

Q. Is the antifreeze wasted after each use?
A. We suggest you catch the non-toxic antifreeze in a small container each time you de-winterize and simply pour back into out-side fill for antifreeze tank.

Q. Each time I DE-winterize, does it dilute the non-toxic antifreeze?
A. Every time you De-Winterize your RV, you will get a small amount of water with the antifreeze. We recommend that after de-winterizing 3 times, drain 1 gallon of antifreeze from A-tank and then add a fresh gallon of non-toxic antifreeze to antifreeze tank.

Q. Where do I buy NON-TOXIC antifreeze?
A. Available at RV dealers and RV service supply outlets.

Q. What type of antifreeze should I use in the system?
A. You MUST USE NON-TOXIC propylene glycol antifreeze (biodegradable) NEVER USE automotive antifreeze. The antifreeze used in the cars is TOXIC and will cause death.

Q. Where can I install the 2/3 gallon antifreeze tank?
A. The tank may be installed just about anywhere in you RV next to the water tank, in any of the cabinets. It is recommended to be installed as close to the fresh water pump as possible. The reason is that antifreeze is heavier than water, the closer to the water pump, the less work for the pump. The reason for installing it close to the outside wall, we supply fittings for the outside refilling or the antifreeze tank.

Q. How do I winterize my RV for winter storage with the Prevent-A-Freeze System?
A. If the following suggested steps are followed, your RV will be fully winterized. You will not have to keep heat on in you RV. You will be able to winterize or de-winterize anywhere, anytime in minutes.

  • Step 1. Drain hot water tank and leave drain valve and relief valve open
until you are ready to de-winterize your RV.
  • Step 2. Push Prevent-A-Freeze “winterize” switch to winterize mode. Flip
winterize switch until light turns on. Next push Prevent-A-Freeze “By-Pass” switch to By-Pass mode, flip pump on. Start with the furtherest water faucet (most RVs will be the kitchen faucets), open one faucet at a time until colored non-toxic antifreeze appears. Allow small amount of antifreeze to run in the sink. This will winterize the traps. Do the same to each faucet in the RV, also turn on showerhead and flush toilet until non-toxic antifreeze appears.
  • Step 3. Turn off fresh water pump. Now open one faucet-this will relieve
pressure on the water pump. Leave control panel in winterize and By-Pass mode.
  • Step 4. Drain fresh water tank-leave drain valve open.
  • Step 5. Drain the gray water tank or tanks (also referred to as holding
tanks). Leave drain to “Open” position. Your RV is now fully winterized (all water pressure lines are full of non-toxic antifreeze). Your traps have antifreeze in them also your fresh water pump is winterized. Now you can rest assured of NO frozen lines or frozen water pumps.

Q. Can I put Non-Toxic antifreeze into my hot water tank?
A. We recommend not putting non-toxic antifreeze in the hot tank or fresh water tank (as long as you leave drain and relief valve in ‘Open’ position). The reason being you will have an antifreeze taste in you plumbing when you de-winterize.

Q. When I de-winterize in the spring, will I get an antifreeze taste in my water?
A. NO! All winterized lines are pressured lines. When de-winterizing, simply fill your fresh water tank (make sure all drain valves are closed), turn on By-Pass switch, turn on RV fresh water pump, open one faucet at a time catching non-toxic antifreeze if you wish to reuse it, until fresh water appears. Let fresh water run in each faucet for a short time to make sure antifreeze is out of all the lines. Turn off By-Pass switch – Leave winterizing and By-Pass switches off for the rest of summer.

Q. Can I use my RV in freezing weather when enjoying winter sports and activities?
A. That is what Prevent-A-Freeze is all about. The answer to your question is YES! Here is how to you can enjoy your investment 12 months out of the year in the coldest temperatures.

  • Step 1: If you are going to be using your water system in below freezing
weather, we recommend that you turn your RV heater thermostat to no lower than 55 degrees. Leave furnace on, this will keep your fresh water tank from freezing.
  • Step 2: Close all drain valves (fresh water drain and gray water drains); check to make sure all water faucets are closed
  • Step 3: Leave Hot Water Tank Drain Open –also leaveRelief Valve Open. Do not close, relief valve is also referred to as pop-off valve.
  • Step 4: Fill fresh water tank. Fill no more than _ full in case you should
    have furnace failure.
  • Step 5: The hot water tank is the first to freeze on an RV (being installed
to the outside with a vented door), so always leave drain and pop-off valve to ‘open’ position.
  • Step 6: When using fresh water, always turn on By-Pass switch then turn
on RV water pump. This allows you to use your water any time for use of toilet, drinking water, etc.
  • Step 7: After each use of your fresh water, turn off fresh water pump. By-
Pass may be left in the By-pass mode.
  • Step 8: After your gray water tank will freeze up if installed to the outside of RV. You may dump antifreeze to prevent freezing or dissolve a handful of rock salt in a pitcher of water, then pour one pitcher down kitchen sink, also pour one pitcher down toilet if you have two holding tanks. Gray water will get sluggish but will drain.
  • Step 9: When you are not traveling on the road and want to use hot
water, close drain and pop-off valve, fill hot water tank with water, turn water heater on. When filling hot water tank, turn By-Pass to the NORMAL position. Then turn on the RV water pump.
  • Step 10: Before starting travel, turn off hot water tank; at hot water tank,
open drain and pop-off valve (leave open), you are now ready for travel. Revert back to turning on By-Pass switch each time you use fresh water. Remember to run off RV water pump.
